Managing Labor Costs in a Difficult Economy

In today’s economy, employers may be faced with the difficult task of cutting costs. Ms. Brucker will discuss how to effectively manage cost cutting measures including:
· Managing the attendant legal risk of cutting labor costs.
· Practical advice on freezing or reducing wages, working time and discretionary benefits; using flexible scheduling, on-call work, and independent contractors; implementing new performance or productivity standards; limiting expenses for mileage reimbursements, training costs, and visa sponsorship; terminating individual employment contracts; implementing work furloughs/forced vacation; changing commission or bonus plans; managing employee leaves of absence during work slow-downs.
A 15 minute legal wage and hour update will also be presented,
